The BoE-Bot robotics kit includes everything you need to make a functional, educational and entertaining mobile robot. No previous robotics, electronics or programming experience is necessary.
Parallax robots are built on a high-quality brushed aluminum chassis that provides a sturdy platform for the servo motors and printed circuit board. Mounting holes and slots may be used to add custom robotic equipment. The rear wheel is a drilled polyethylene ball held in place with a cotter pin.
The BoE-Bot’s flexibility stems from the fact that it’s a rolling Board of Education. All I/O projects are built on the breadboard. The Board of Education may be removed for use with other Stamps in Class curriculum. The robot may be programmed to follow a line, solve a maze, follow light, or communicate with another robot. The Board of Education is also available as a separate item (see Related Items, below)
The BoE-Bot is an excellent introduction for anyone interested in robotics. However, the BoE-Bot really shines in the classroom.
Educational Features
The Robotics with the BoE-Bot text includes 41 new activities for the BoE-Bot robot with structured PBASIC 2.5 source code support and bonus challenges with solutions in each chapter. Starting with basic movement and proceeding to sensor-based projects, students quickly learn how the BoE-Bot is expandable for many different robotic projects.
Over 90,000 BoE-Bot robots are in use by hobbyists, educators and students around the world, which provided lots of feedback for improvements to this popular kit along the way.
If you already have a Board of Education the addition of the Robotics with the BoE-Bot Parts kit (see Related Products, below) gives you everything you need to make a full BoE-Bot.

It’s is the same bag of electronic parts that ships with brand new BoE-Bot Robot kits. Every sensor, wire, capacitor, resistor, LED, photoresistor and piezo speaker for each book activity is included in this pack. (Continuous rotation servos not included.)
It’s also handy for educators who are trying to restock supplies for the new class coming up this semester. This package ensures each BoE-Bot robot has all the components necessary to build the breadboard circuits shown in the Robotics with the BoE-Bot text.

The Robotics with the BoE-Bot Parts Kit is required to expand the functionality of your existing Board of Education (Boe) to the equivalent of a BoE-Bot Fill Kit. In other words, if you already have a Boe, then adding this parts kit will give you a full BoE-Bot robot.
The kit includes the BoE-Bot chassis, Whisker Kit, servo motors, wheels, battery pack, standoffs, screws, etc. The BoE-Bot chassis has mounting slots and screw holes that may be used for customizing your robot with whiskers, additional prototype space, sonar and infra-red sensors, or even a robotic arm. The electronic components required for the Robotics experiments are also included.
While intended for use with the Board of Education, the parts kit can be used as a solid mobility platform for just about any robot creation.
The Parallax “Board of Education” series of products are very well thought-out and documented. You new to microcontrollers and robotics? You could do much worse than starting with the “BoE” projects. What makes the Board of Education Shield noteworthy, is that Parallax is opening up their venerable Basic-Stamp platform to use your own Arduino (not included) so you can mount it to the popular BoE-Bot robot chassis.
With this kit and your own Arduino module, you can follow the Robotics with the Board of Education Shield for Arduino lessons with over 40 hands-on activities.

The book will also be available in print (sold separately).
