Description

Herbie the Mousebot is a 9-volt battery-powered light-following robot that loves to chase flash light beams. What sets aside the new version is that it can see much better now – and reacts to both LED and incandescent light. (The previous version is still available while supplies last.)

These little robots are so quick, you have to run to keep up to them! We’ve even enhanced Herbie with functional whisker and tail sensors, so he doesn’t get stuck in corners or under obstacles while chasing around.

Herbie comes as a build-it-yourself kit that does not use any microprocessors or programming –  we’ll supply you with all the parts and some excellent documentation to put him together. Our instructions contain many pictures and simple descriptions to make the building process easy and fun, especially for beginners. We even provide free phone/email technical support to help you complete your project. Still stuck? We do repairs!

Originally invented by Randy Sargent, Herbie was built from spare parts as an entry for a robot competition. Herbie is such an elegant, clever design using very few parts, it’s been featured in as a construction project in “Junkbot, Bugbots, and Bots on Wheels”, “Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Robots” and “MAKE” Magazine.

A portion of each sale is donated to the “KISS Institute for Practical Robotics”, a not-for-profit organization that uses educational robotics programs to actively engage students in science, technology, engineering, math, and project management. This is an organization Randy (Herbie’s “Dad”) is involved with.
