Make Magazine does great projects, and Volume 28 features a construction article on building your own Solar Pendulum, which has roots in the Magbot Pendulum project in the book Junkbots, Bugbots, and Bots on Wheels and defunct Solar Pendulum kit.
Use the Make article (not included – get a copy!) and this parts bundle to construct your own solar-powered, self-activating pendulum, at a 20% saving over buying the parts individually.
