The big trick to making power electronics run consistently is the cooling. A bit too hot, the stepper starts dropping steps, or the voltage regulator starts choking power. Sometimes you need just a bit more cooling to make it better.
Aluminum is a great media for heatsinks, right behind copper and gold. These little units are ideally suited to be thermally glued to any small IC needing a bit more assistance in pulling the heat away.
