Some of the new RGB addressable strip LEDs are truly impressive – bright, flexible… and power hungry! We’ve tested some 5M rolls that draw almost a full 5A at 5VDC.

For any project that needs this sort of power, we have this solid CE-rated power supply. Taking it apart (like we usually do to new tools) shows quality construction, with inline fusing and solid design practices. Our own load tests show it sourced 5.3A at 4.3VDC (we couldn’t dial in our load resistor closer to 5.0A draw), so it isn’t a solid 5VDC @ 5A, but good design practices state you should over-select your power supply by 150% for your load (if you have a 5A draw, select a 7.5A supply at minimum).
