Watching pallet-jacks moving a bazillion units of filament through snow is a Canadian thing. Well, for us at least. Now that our warehouse is restocked, and with our new shipment, comes new colors!
eSun BASIC
The eSun basic formulations are just that – simplified and less expensive. Ideal for lower-speed printing not needing the qualities the full eSun PLA+ formulations offer.

eSun Silks & Silk-Magic
The silks lineup offers such a nice sheen and finish to a print.

eSun New PLA & Chemistries
eSun simple keeps increasing the number of colors available. Here’s what we’ve selected to add to our inventory. Oh, and a new “Luminous Orange” (aka: Glow-in-the-Dark), and Carbon-fiber black!

These are thermal, not Infrared cameras, returning temperature data in a tight and tidy bundle that can be plugged into Android, IOS, and other USB devices (like Raspberry-Pi SBCs!).

What use is it? Here’s what we’ve done with it over the last month:
- Did thermal house-leakage analysis using on my Android phone.
- Successfully diagnose a stuck-open thermostat on my truck (it was taking very long to heat up in our freezing Calgary winter).
- Detected a bruise forming on my forearm before it was visible
- Diagnose a bad voltage regulator on a motherboard
- Count animals in the park across the street
- Use some excellent open-source software to run it on a Rock Pi SBC for in-store demos
And it’s small. The basic unit starts at just over $220, and there are models with additional macro-settings, pistol-grip mounts, and advanced software settings.

Presently not on the website yet, but it is available in-store at Active-Tech Calgary.
Some of our favorite vendors reduced their offerings in thermal paste, so we searched out replacement inventory. We came across GD-2 being reviewed as a cost-effective alternative to more premium thermal pastes. So we’ve brought in some stock in 1, 7 and 15gram volumes.
At 7.5W/MK, it’s almost twice as effective as our budget thermal paste.
Presently, it’s only available in-store at Active-Tech Calgary.

The Paris Flyer CarouSol Kit is the latest product in our line of solar-powered kinetic desk toys. Borrowing design elements from the golden age of air travel , we’ve added our unique solar-electronics flair to create self-powered dynamic mobiles.

We always enjoy seeing our products being modified, revamped and DIY-ed, as well as the results of these transformations.
Our customer Vera Kark provided us with some thoughtful feedback on adding mechanical tweaks to improve our Solar GraviTrack build and documentation. She also painted the brown MDF of the machine. She used tempera paint on the wood components still in panelized form, and the GraviTrack‘s performance seemed to be unaffected.
The GraviTrack looks great in vibrant jewel tone colours, however, we do not recommend applying paint to the hand mechanism itself. You can paint the base and the rails, avoiding the hand mechanism completely. The moisture and the thickness of the paint might affect the precise tolerances of the moving parts, and will interfere with its proper functioning. Another relatively safe option might be felt tip marker since the moisture from alcohol evaporates quickly.

P.S. Also, a particularly bad idea is painting your GraviTrack after the assembly is completed. Even though we were using a very watered down acrylic paint, the mechanism seized up the moment the paint became sticky. Don’t be like us. Take care of your GraviTrack.

We are always on the search of cool technology, so when we came across Bare Conductive, we thought: pizza! what a great find! Bare Conductive is a design and technology company from the UK that makes sensing tools for engineers, designers, and makers. They produce a line of electrically conductive paint, capacitive sensor hardware and a range of kits that are extremely well designed, documented, and accompanied by fun projects.
Here are the two projects contributed by the BareConductive community members:

A Conductive Sound Wall is a project that uses a Touch Board and Electric Paint to turn a flat drawing into an interactive sound experience.
Bare Conductive designs and manufactures a suite of technologies that transform surfaces and objects into precise, robust and low cost sensors. This range of kits provides users with context and focused project outcomes for these future-facing platforms, regardless of experience level.
