What is VESC you ask? It’s a feature-rich electronic speed controller originally designed and open-sourced by Benjamin Vedder. Unlike a regular ESC which is purpose-built for a specific motor size and current, VESC’s can be programmed to accommodate a number of different motor sizes and currents with programmable acceleration and deceleration curves.
While a VESC is not as simple to use as a standard ESC, it allows you to do many things that its counterpart cannot. You can:
While the price of a VESC is higher than your standard ESC, the build quality, robustness, and programmability make it an excellent choice for projects that need fine-tuned control and customizability.
