Description

The new PING))) ultrasonic sensor is a popular solution for anyone who wants to measure the distance between any moving or stationary objects. Naturally, robotics applications are very popular but you’ll also find this product to be useful in security systems or as a replacement for infrared sensing stations.

The PING))) sensor measures distances using sound; an ultrasonic sound (well above human hearing) pulse is transmitted from the unit and is echoed back to the target. The distance from the sender to the target is determined by measuring the amount of time that was required for the echo return. Output from the PING))) sensor is a variable-width pulse that corresponds to the distance to the target. The PING))) can be easily implemented into any design and requires only 5V, GND, and a single I/O line.
