IESF-R-5 Pressure Sensor
The IESF-R-5 force sensor outputs a varying resistance that is proportional to the force applied to the black button at the end of the device. The resistance can then used to estimate force (or weight).
- Compact device (10 x 68 mm)
- Up to 4 Kg of force
- High resistance (>500K) unloaded
- Low resistance (~500 Ohms) at max load
- Easy to use
How it works
The IESF features a special rubber membrane which deflects under pressure. The membrane makes contact with a ceramic plate with resistive traces on it. As the force increases, the membrane contacts more of the resistive traces area and the output resistance drops.
A simple circuit consisting of the IESF-5-R, a 1K Ohm resistor, and an LED in series serves to demonstrate the sensors' functionality. When powered with +5VDC the LED will glow more brightly as the force on the sensor is increased.
Limitations
The IESP-12 is designed for intermittent use. That is, the application of force should be temporary. Applying force for long periods can permanently damage the membrane and alter the characteristics of the device -particularly at higher force levels.
Applications
Digital scale, variable-force pushbutton, contact sensor, robotics....
